She was raised in Balangoda.
Shortly after Shalani completed her primary education, she relocated to Negombo which was her mother’s hometown.
While attending Newstead Girls College, Shalani trained in the western and Kandyan styles of dance.
Shalani was just 17 years old when she won the 2007 Sirasa Kumariya beauty pageant that was organized by Sirasa TV, hence, launching her to fame.
She made her debut TV show appearance as Subha in Poojasanaya in 2008. Later, in 2012, Shalani made her first theatrical film appearance as Medhavi in Selvam.
Her mother Suraji Fernando works as a beautician.
She has appeared in music videos for various artists that include Oya Dese by Prinyan, Mata Oya by D n S, Wasthuwe by Shafee ft. Delon.
Shalani was featured in the 2021 Raffealla Fernando Celebrity Calendar.
Over the years, Shalani has won various awards that include 5 Peoples’ vote for “Most Popular Actress.”
